I would like to temporarily end my studies to take a sabbatical year. Is this a wise decision?
You can interrupt your studies for a year, and then resume your programme. Whether this is wise depends on your objective in this sabbatical year. How will you be spending it? If you plan to use this time to act as a Board Member in an association, to take a relevant part-time job or to spend some time abroad, it is probably a good idea. But remember: some students find it difficult to pick up their studies again after such a year. So if your goal is to complete your study programme and you know you will find it difficult to restart, you might decide that it is better to not take this kind of break. If you're an international student, please make sure that there will be no problems with your visa or residence permit. Also, you might encounter housing problems when you decide to quit studying or leave Leiden for a year.
